Travel Guide: Norway Climate and Landscape

This Scandinavian country is known for its majestic countryside that is populated by a number of fjords. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be taking a look at the climate and landscape of Norway.

Norway is part of Scandinavia and is one of Europe’s most northern countries. However, it has a surprisingly moderate climate for its northerly location. Temperatures vary between the coasts and the mainland. With distinct seasons, Norway is best known as a snowy destination.

The country is well-known for its majestic coastline. In fact, Norway’s coast is one of the longest in the world, and it is lined by over fifty thousand Norwegian islands.

Norway is also one of the most mountainous countries on the continent. With these rocky mountains come lush valleys. These Scandinavian Mountains are a striking natural element in the country on their own, and one of the major attractions of Norway.

However, they help create another important natural landmark: the Norwegian fjords. In fact, the fjords were once named the top tourist attraction in the world. The magnificent scenery surrounding the fjords is unparalleled the world over.

As well as the mountains and fjords, Norway features high plateaus and frozen glaciers. Norway is home to Europe’s largest glacier. Intrepid travelers can trek through the icy tundra and will take in splendid views on the way. Some areas on the glaciers can only be reached on skis, so be prepared for some exercise!

Another powerful natural element of the Norwegian landscape is the waterfall. Majestic and huge, these waterfalls punctuate the countryside dramatically. Free-falling water thunders down, and offers visitors the chance to wonder at the spectacular power of nature.
